Hello everyone, my name is Zhong Pingting, an English major from Sichuan Normal University. I’m glad to stand here to present my teaching of Module 4 A Social Survey - My Neighbourhood.

My students are high school students who are a little bit shy. Sometimes they can understand some simple words or sentences, but they are still too shy to speak out in English or to express their own ideas.

My teaching aids are blackboard and computer.

I have three teaching aims, the first is to let the students learn the new words of this module as quick as possible; the second is to cultivate the students’ love of their hometown; and the last is to make the students work together with their classmates and participate in the class activities actively.

Then, I have four teaching procedures.

The first step is warm-up activity. In this period, I’d like to teach my students a simple slogan to shout out together as loud as possible with their body languages. The content of this slogan is: We are super Yao-yer. The purpose of this kind of warm-up activity is to arise the students’ interest in learning English and force them to speak out English confidently.

The second step is new words learning. In this part, I’d like to show the pictures of those new words one by one on the PPT, so to lead them to have a better understanding of those words. The purpose is to let the students learn new words easier through the help of pictures.

The third step is reading. In this part, I’d like to present the short passage about Zhang Hua’s hometown on the PPT and let the whole class read the passage together. Then, ask the students to imitate the author’s way of introducing his hometown, so to make up some sentences which are similar to those sentences in that short passage, using the new words and phrases we have just learned. Then, I’d like to ask them a question: “Where does Zhang Hua live?” So to lead in the way to describe the location of a certain place.

The last step is speaking. I’ll arrange a task for my students: Imagine you were a tour guid, please introduce your hometown to your deskmate, the information about your hometown’s climate, people, food, leisure, location and tourist spot should be included in your introduction.
